We used to be the old pumping station supplying water to the Watford area. In the early 1970s the building was converted to provide a theatre auditorium and rehearsal room and we’ve expanded over the years to include a number of multi-purpose spaces.
So if you’re looking for somewhere a bit different to host your conference, AGM, product launch, team building workshop, training session or business meeting then The Pump House is here to meet your needs.
For combined room hires or whole venue hires please contact us for a bespoke package quote. Discounted rates may be available to registered charities and local voluntary organisations.

Our facilities
Main Auditorium
The Pump House’s Main Theatre is a raked auditorium which can seat 124 people and is ideal for hosting talks, presentations and award ceremonies. There is wheelchair access from the side entrance. A full PA system and access to our theatre sound and lighting equipment is available to you as part of your hire rate. We charge an extra £50 a day if you want to use our projector. We have backstage dressing rooms and a foyer which you can use for meet and greets, delegate registrations and displays.
Colne River Room
The room has no fixed seating and chairs can be arranged for a variety of events from theatre-style to round-table layouts with a maximum capacity of 100. We have a small stage and PA system which are included in your hire rate. The Colne River Room has its own, separate entrance and foyer area suitable for meet and greets, delegate registrations and displays.
Meeting/Workshop Spaces
Our Charles Room is ideal for business meetings and discussion groups. It can hold up to 30 people with flexible seating. And our Upper Rehearsal Rooms are two large, flexible, multi-purpose spaces which are well suited for holding workshops and training in.
Catering
Our Main Auditorium and Colne River Room each have their own, fully licensed bar which is included in your hire rate. All bar sales must be paid for separately. And the Charles Room comes with its own self-contained tea/coffee bar.
Both our bars are manned by volunteers so you would need to check we have people available to staff them before you make your booking.
While we have no on-site catering you are more than welcome to bring in your own food and refreshments. Whether just snacks, buffet or sit-down meal options, please speak to our team about your requirements and we can advise what would be possible.
