The Pump House Theatre and Arts Centre is a charitable community theatre entertaining Watford for over 45 years. Our doors have been closed alongside many theatres since March 2020, however we are now in a position to say we are back. #WatfordTogether
The team have been working really hard to prepare a safe environment for all to enjoy. This has included outside performance space options with partial covering, industrial strength cleaning of indoor facilities including anti-viral soft furnishing treatments, specialized environmentally friendly UV space disinfectant machines, hand sanitizer everywhere, socially distanced entrances and seating. We have also been working with local and public health authorities to ensure everything meets latest guidelines.
To celebrate our return, we plan to have an outdoor Jazz gig at the Pump House with the renowned local professional band the Jazz Goats. The show will include Jazz, Rock ‘n’ Roll and Classic Pop. Tickets are £5 + donations which will go towards helping the Pump House remain open for all to enjoy. We will also have a basic bar service available. This gig be on the 6th September 2.30pm and to book tickets please go to www.ticketsource.co.uk/pumphousewatford
From Saturday 19th September 7.30pm we will be starting in collaboration with a West End producer a season of staged interviews and masterclasses with top arts industry professionals from across the world. called The Spotlight Series. These events will not only be available to a small, socially distanced audience but also will be streamed live online using the Pump House’s new live streaming facilities. Guests in the series will include writers, directors, performers and practitioners from theatre, music, television and film industries with the first episode featuring James Meteyard and Olivia Sweeney – the creators of the multi award winning and sell out Gig-Theatre play ‘Electrolyte’ Tickets are £2 and available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/pumphousewatford
Then of course we move to the Watford Fringe 2020 which this year has been extended to run over four days from Thursday 1st to Sunday 4th October. Four years ago, this quirky community theatre had a seed of an idea, “Lets do a Watford Fringe!”. Four years later it is going from strength to strength, and this year there will be over 50 acts in The Pump House Theatre and Watford Museum. With Covid19 all safety measures are in place to make sure this festival is as safe as possible including fogging and UV light zapping! We have learned so much and safety will come first for this Festival. There will be small audiences with social distancing heavily considered but the exciting part is we will also be streaming most of the performances …..live! Therefore, if you are at home and still want to join in you can!
With Watford Borough Council and other partners supporting the publicity we are ready and now just need, you, the public to come along.
No Fringe however would be complete without an amazing line up. There are several award winning 5 star plays that could not perform this year at other Fringes such as Edinburgh/Camden; Musical Plays; Comedians; Jazz; Folk; Indie Music; Rock Music; Musical Theatre; Belly Dancing; Workshops; An Orchestra; Poetry; Musicians; Children’s acts; magicians; Art; Khatak Dancing; Choirs; DJ’s and much, much more. There may also be food, drink (depending on the current rules and availability) and of course a warm welcome.
As well as the fabulous acts and venues this wonderful vibrant Festival, is run 90% by dedicated volunteers, which makes this Watford Fringe Festival so special.
