Now in his 70th year John has been playing jazz and leading bands for over 55 years and started playing the clarinet in 1960, leading his own band by 1961. Being in the same class at school, Hugh Crozier and Brian Lawrence joined John in his first band 'The Black Bottom Stompers' and they travelled Belgium and Germany before he moved to Poole in Dorset with his job. He then formed his 'Jazzmen' - now in it's 43rd year and as popular as ever. Their style is based on Johnny Dodds but has matured into John's own sound incorporating many of the great New Orleans clarinet players.

He brings to The Pump House Peter Wilkinson (trumpet), Chris Gower (trombone), Doug Kennedy (banjo), Peter McCurrie (bass), Brian Barker (drums), Chris Satterly (piano) and led, of course by himself on clarinet.
