John has been playing jazz and leading bands for over 55 years and started playing the clarinet in 1960, leading his own band by 1961. Being in the same class at school, Hugh Crozier and Brian Lawrence joined John in his first band. They travelled Belgium and Germany before he moved to Poole in Dorset with his job and formed his 'Jazzmen' - as popular as ever - even after over 40 years. Their style is based on Johnny Dodds but has matured into John's own sound incorporating many of the great New Orleans clarinet players.

This week clarinetist John brings to The Pump House band members Peter Wilkinson (trumpet), Chris Gower (trombone), Doug Kennedy (banjo), Peter McCurrie (bass), Brian Barker (drums) and Chris Satterly (piano). Definitely not an evening to miss!
